Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow, Scotland

It is an odd feeling to spend years learning about famous furniture designers and the works that made their fame, and then to stand in front of an original piece and register the fact that it is, well, actually an original piece. I learned this when visiting the Kelvingrove Art Gallery in Glasgow, Scotland and saw the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Ingram Chair.

In my experience, observing famous pieces of furniture in person really assists in understanding the design, its feeling, and its proportions. This area of the museum focuses on Mackintosh and the Glasgow Style. This, in addition to the Glasgow School of Art's significant display of Mackintosh's work and history, allowed me to understand and appreciate the local appreciation of the designer as a representation of the city.
